Since June 1^st 2017, Frédéric Bouchard is the new Dean of the Faculty of arts and sciences (FAS) of Université de Montréal (UdeM). After serving as Deputy Vice-Rector for Research, Creation, Discovery and Innovation, M. Bouchard will now serve as Dean of the FAS, thus succeeding to Tania Sabia who was interim Dean for the last two years. Following a unanimous recommendation of the University’s Council, M. Bouchard will head the FAS for the next five years.

The Faculty of arts and sciences offers more than 250 programmes and encourages interaction between disciplines and also strongly supports interdisciplinary endeavours. M. Bouchard, himself a strong advocate of interdisciplinary research, will now have to lead this important and diverse faculty that counts more than 20 000 students within its ranks.

C’est pour moi une réelle fierté que de diriger la faculté où j’ai étudié, où j’enseigne et où je fais de la recherche. J’ai très hâte d’aider mes collègues à réaliser leurs projets. La FAS forme une communauté d’étudiants, de professeurs, de chargés de cours et de membres du personnel qui est au centre de tous les grands enjeux sociétaux de notre époque. Et c’est mon intention de jeter de nouveaux ponts entre tous les acteurs qui peuvent nous aider à mieux accomplir notre mission.
